I Will Survive by Paul Walker

I was invited into this incredible project as Dramaturg by Paul Walker (Moonshine). I worked closely with Paul and the participants to capture moments from the creative performance workshops towards a final showing and presentation. Paul invited a series of artists to run creative trauma-informed workshops in response to the recovery from the 2022 Northern Rivers Floods. All workshops and the final presentation were held at SeeSpace Lismore, NSW from October - December 2022.

I Will Survive Presentation Showing - First stage of development

SeeSpace Lismore

Sunday, 18 December

This project took place on the unceded land of the Widjabul Wia-bul people of the Bundjalung nation. Always Was, Always Will Be, Aboriginal Land.

I Will Survive is a creative recovery project by, for, and with the Northern Rivers LGBTIQA+ community that commenced with a series of performance and creative art workshops, finishing in a presentation showing.

The evening featured a sharing of outcomes created by participants/collaborative artists during the 8-week workshop series, including live performances, projection art, videos, photography, drawings, paintings, and sound works.

The journey of this project has been rich and inspiring, and over the course of the workshops we  came together to co-create in a variety of artistic processes that supported the group to express themselves and share their stories. Now, we are excited to share the first stage of development for a multi-artform immersive dance theatre installation that will be a collective story of our community, and the land itself, at this time.

— Paul Walker. Artistic Director

The creative development of I Will Survive has been supported by NORPA’s Artist Seed Funding 2022.
