Marina Abramović: In Residence

Presented by Kaldor Public Art Projects at Pier 2/3, Walsh Bay, Sydney.

Working alongside Marina Abramović and her collaborator Lynsey Peisinger, I facilitated and assisted the public with guided exercises, coordinating visitors and supporting the artist during the delivery of the project. The space we created over the project for the public to enter was nothing I had ever been involved in before. We took our time to slowly walk and invite the public into a place of pure deep listening, feeling and deeply sensing inside the experience through set exercises.

Lynsey Peisinger trained us facilitators at Carriageworks, Sydney in the Abramovic Method. We were fasting while training to bring us into a state of inner presence and openness to an inner listening. We eye gazed extended periods of time, slow walked to an almost stillness pace and sensed each other in the room while blind folded- in preparation to guide the public through the Marina Abramovic Method .

Abramović and the team spent 12 days onsite at Pier 2/3, leading visitors through a series of transformative experiences that shifted their focus, challenged their perceptions, and changed the way they looked at art. Positioned just beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge and around the corner from Sydney Opera House, the vast Walsh Bay Pier became a pop-up gallery venue, housing Abramović's extraordinary project, an artists’ residency program, and ongoing public talks and special events. - Kaldor Public Art Projects
